Tangipahoa Registrar of Voters Andi Matheu is reminding all eligible citizens to make sure they’re registered to vote ahead of the fall elections. It is also just as important to verify your registration information is up to date. 

We would normally go out into the community and conduct voter registration drives, but with some covid-19 restrictions still in place, it was hard to schedule those plans this go round. Our Voter Outreach will include social media and website updates and daily information posts with links for accessing all the forms you need to register to vote. 

Those who need to register for the first time, or make changes to their current registration, can do so online at www.GeauxVote.com. Registration can also be done in-person at the Registrar of Voters office. An application may also be submitted by mail. Those forms and any registration information can be found at our website www.TangiVotes.com.

For those who wish to register in-person, the Registrar of Voters office is available Monday – Friday.

The last day to register to vote in-person or by mail for the Nov. 3 election is Oct. 5. The last day for online registration is Oct. 13.

The USPS has sent out an informational postcard to EVERY RESIDENTIAL ADDRESS and PO Box in America. **Please be aware this does NOT mean you will receive a mail ballot.** It is simply to inform you of your ability to apply for a mail ballot and encourage you to do so in a timely manner to avoid any delays. Early Voting began this morning and will continue Monday through Saturday 8:30AM – 6:00 PM through Saturday, August 8^th 2020 for the August 15^th election.  The emergency plan approved by the Governor and the Louisiana Legislature extends the Early Voting period from 1 week to 2 weeks for the July and August elections. 

The Registrar of Voters Office is taking every precaution available to maintain a clean environment for all voters to cast their ballot and feel confident and safe while doing so.  We are cleaning pens, voter cards and screens between every voter and wearing our masks while assisting any public matters. 

The August 8^th, 2020 election ONLY includes inside the city limits for:

City of Hammond

And

Town of Independence

There are only 27 precincts involved in the 08/15/2020 election.  Some of the precincts are partial precincts (meaning only those living INSIDE the city limits are eligible to vote).

1. Can the Registrar of Voters office change ANY of my registration information without my knowledge or letting me know?
   
   The RoV cannot edit a registration record without the required documentation and signature of the voter.If the RoV receives the proper documentation to register a voter or update a voters registration, a new voter id card is mailed to the mailing address on record with our office.

2. What is the Presidential Preference Primary?

A PPP, commonly referred to as a “Presidential Primary,” is an election in which voters nominate their choice to be a political party’s candidate for President in the general election.

3. How can I change my voter information?

You may change your voter information online https://tangivotes.com/i-would-like-to/update-my-information or come into either of our offices to do so in person.  In addition to those options, there are 3^rd party agencies that are required to ask if you would like to register to vote or update your voter information.  When the RoV receives the documentation from those agencies (with voter signature) we will register a new voter or update our voter records.  * a new voter id card is then mailed to the mailing address on record with RoV office.

4. How can I check my voter information?

You may check your voter information online www.geauxvote.com , come into either office or call us to obtain your registration information.

Presidential Preference Primary

The Presidential Preference Primary is held statewide in the Spring of each presidential election year. In 2020, the Presidential Preference Primary will be held on July 11, 2020. It allows the electors of each political party having 40,000 or more registered voters to express their preference for their party’s presidential nominee.

The Democratic, Republican, and Independent Parties in Louisiana have 40,000 plus registered voters and therefore have a Presidential Preference Primary election. **There was no candidate for the Independent party in the July 11, 2020 election. 

The parties govern by their rules who can vote in the election. Presently only registered Democratic voters can vote in the Democratic Party primary, registered Republicans in the Republican Party primary, and registered Independents in the Independent Party primary. These primaries are closed to all other registered voters.
