News and Updates

We are receiving a lot of calls daily inquiring about mail ballots and I’m hoping this information will help clear up any confusion.

The post office mailer confused a majority of our voters. That postcard mailer was strictly for informational purposes.  It does not mean that you will recieve a mail ballot.  You have to apply for the program before you will receive a mail ballot.

  • Louisiana will handle their mail ballots the same way we have always done, according to law. The only exception from the court ruling is the temporary covid application must be made available to voters for the November and December 2020 elections (available on our website). IF someone is currently on our mail program they will continue to receive their ballots for every election they are eligible for, for the dates requested on their application.
  • We didn’t receive the ballots from the State until after the 16th of September. We began processing them immediately. This takes time as well as a lot of manpower and team work. We have worked tirelessly for several days with the help of employees from the Clerk of Court and Assessors offices. Without their help we would still be stuffing ballots and probably wouldn’t have finished for another week. BUT, the ballots are complete and all existing mail ballot requests have been fulfilled and are being delivered to the post office TODAY!
  • If you have registered or requested a mail ballot in the last week, we will begin processing those applications and requests again today.
  • If you register by mail or online, we will not contact you unless we are missing information or need clarification regarding your registration. You can always visit GeauxVote.com to verify your registration information AND see the status of your mail ballot.
  • If you vote your mail ballot when you receive it and mail it back in a timely manner, we should receive your ballot back in plenty of time before the election. The deadline to return a mail ballot to our office is the 4:30 PM the day before the election (November 2). **As always, you can drop your ballot to us at one of our offices.

The court case Harding,et al. v. Edwards, et al #20-cv-0495 Ruling for the November and December 2020 elections made the following changes:

  • The same Covid-19 ballot application that was used during the July 11 and August 15, 2020 elections must be made available to voters for the November 3 and December 5, 2020 elections.
  • The period of early voting for the November 3, 2020 election is increased to a 10 day period which shall run from Friday, October 16, 2020 to Tuesday, October 27, 2020 (excluding Sundays) from 8:00AM to 7:00 PM.
  • The December 5th election and early voting will run as stated in the Louisiana Election Code.

The covid-19 application can be found on our website and may be completed online or printed and returned by mail or hand delivered to the Registrar of Voters offices. **Note – this application is a Temporary application and only good for the November and December 2020 elections.

Tangipahoa Registrar of Voters Andi Matheu is reminding all eligible citizens to make sure they’re registered to vote ahead of the fall elections. It is also just as important to verify your registration information is up to date.

We would normally go out into the community and conduct voter registration drives, but with some covid-19 restrictions still in place, it was hard to schedule those plans this go round. Our Voter Outreach will include social media and website updates and daily information posts with links for accessing all the forms you need to register to vote.

Those who need to register for the first time, or make changes to their current registration, can do so online at www.GeauxVote.com. Registration can also be done in-person at the Registrar of Voters office. An application may also be submitted by mail. Those forms and any registration information can be found at our website www.TangiVotes.com.

For those who wish to register in-person, the Registrar of Voters office is available Monday – Friday.

The USPS has sent out an informational postcard to EVERY RESIDENTIAL ADDRESS and PO Box in America. **Please be aware this does NOT mean you will receive a mail ballot.** It is simply to inform you of your ability to apply for a mail ballot and encourage you to do so in a timely manner to avoid any delays. Please share this info with your family, friends and loved ones. With all the voter confusion out there we want to make things as clear as possible.
